Over 20 Ethiopians Spared Jail In Zimbabwe

Twenty-four Ethiopians have been spared jail after they were each fined been fined US$100 for contravening the immigration act by a Harare Magistrate.

Failure to pay the fine will see them serving a three-month jail term.

They were convicted of evading immigration formalities at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport aboard an Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa.

The State proved that they proceeded to transit lounge without transit visas and waited for the arrival of Eswatini Airline flight to Manzini, Eswatini for a religious purpose.

The immigration department then received information to the effect that there were some passengers who had boarded Eswatini airline without transit visas.

A search was conducted leading to their arrest.
