HARARE, ZIMBABWE – The Zimbabwean government has pledged substantial financial support to the national soccer team, the Warriors, as they prepare for crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Benin and Nigeria.
The Warriors will play Benin this Thursday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa due to a lack of a CAF-certified venue in Zimbabwe.
Kick Off is 6pm.
They will then travel to Uyo, Nigeria, for their match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria four days later.
Zimbabwean leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa has offered a US$150,000 winning bonus for each victory.
This incentive could add an extra $300,000 to the Warriors’ coffers, in addition to the $1 million already allocated for the African Cup of Nations.
ZIFA lauded the government’s commitment, stating, “This significant gesture underscores the government’s unwavering support for football in Zimbabwe.”
The association is urging national support for the team.
