An unlicensed man who was driving a Toyota Hiace which was involved in a road traffic accident that killed eight people at the intersection of Dzivarasekwa and Bulawayo roads – popularly known as Pamagetsi – on Wednesday has been charged with culpable homicide.
Gaylord Gunda, 27, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody until next Monday for bail application.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said: “The accused person failed to give way to oncoming traffic at the intersection.
“In an attempt to avoid a collision, the accused person swerved left, striking a parked truck with registration number 5193 and a bystander. The Toyota Hiace was also struck by a Man truck which was proceeding straight along Bulawayo Road.
“As a result, eight people died and twelve passengers sustained serious injuries.”
