Charity golf tourney for mental health awareness on cards

A charity golf tournament aimed at raising funds for mental health and wellness awareness in the funeral industry has been set for May 9, at the Chapman Golf Club in Harare.

Sidney Chakuchichi, the chairperson of the steering committe, said the tournament is a collective effort involving the whole country.

“The objective of this charity golf tournament is to raise funds that will be channeled towards mental health and wellness awareness, particularly in the funeral industry, which is known to be highly stressful,” Chakuchichi said.

The event is being organised by NEC Funeral Industry, and Chakuchichi, who is also the captain of Chapman Golf Club, expressed excitement about the tournament.

“We are targeting at least 25 teams to participate, but we would be thrilled to have more,” he said.

Each team will contribute a minimum of $200, but there are also various sponsorship classes, including platinum and gold, for organisations that wish to contribute more.

Chakuchichi emphasised the importance of supporting mental health awareness in the funeral industry, where professionals often face high levels of stress.

The event is open to the public, and Chakuchichi encouraged individuals and organisations to participate and support the cause.

“We are trying to make a difference in the lives of our colleagues in the funeral industry, and we believe that this tournament is a great way to start,” he said.

Nhamo Kwaramba, Independent chairman for NEC Funeral Industry, emphasised the importance of collective ownership and support for the charity golf tournament.

“As an industry, we have come together to drive this initiative, and we expect to get the support we are looking for,” Kwaramba said.

“We welcome anyone who wants to be part of this project, including members of the media,” he said.

He added:

“We plan to harness the momentum gained from this event to create awareness and engage with other stakeholders going forward.”

“We will come out with a roadmap for how we plan to engage with partners and experts in the field.

“We will consider providing more information and assistance, possibly with the help of partners and experts, to create awareness and support.”
