City’s Chifura shines against Ngezi

Sport Reporter

Harare City forward Russel Chifura believes he has discovered his scoring form after a man-of-the-match performance in their 2-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum U-19 at Gwanzura on Thursday in a Northern Region Soccer League fixture.

The former Chegutu talisman, scored the first goal and assisted for Lloyd Gwerina for the second goal.

Chifura’s strike on the hour mark, became the first time Ngezi goalkeeper Emmanuel Chambara conceded.

Gwerina extended their lead on the 90th minute to seal the game.

Earlier Chambara had received his SupaFix April Goalkeeper of the Month award.

Chifura said patience was the key to unlock the Ngezi Platinum U-19 defense.

“It was a tough match and we told ourselves to keep on pushing until we get a goal.

“Scoring against this keeper was a milestone as he had kept four clean sheets and I am happy I managed to score.”

Chifura spent the second half of last season on the sidelines due to an injury.

“Being out for sometime was very tough for me. I had missed football and it’s good to be back.

He added,

“It’s a huge gesture to be trusted by the coaches week in week out. So I need to work extra hard to get back my position as a top striker.

The Ngezi goalkeeper was disgruntled after conceding for the first time this season.

He was, however, happy to be awarded goalkeeper of the month.

“I feel happy with winning the award as it is my first time in the Northern Region. I never expected such a feat so fast but I am looking forward to keep on improving.

“Losing today’s game was a tough one. I am disappointed and we can only work hard to overturn it.”
