Gaborone United defender Tatenda Gora has been nominated for the prestigious FNB Premiership Defender of the Season award, recognising his outstanding performances in the 2024/25 campaign.
The Zimbabwean center-back is among six elite defenders shortlisted for the honour, alongside Thabo Leinanyane (Jwaneng Galaxy), Thami Zulu (Mochudi Centre Chiefs), Kemoneetswe Mnangwedi (Tafic), Thato Seagateng (Sua Flamingoes) and Shanganai Nganda (Tafic).
Gora, a key figure in Gaborone United’s backline, played a pivotal role in his team’s defensive solidity, helping them secure crucial clean sheets and are in contention for the championship.
The winner will be announced at the FNB Premiership Awards ceremony on May 26, where the league’s top performers will be honoured a day after the end of the campaign.
If Gora clinches the award, he will become the first Gaborone United defender in recent years to receive the accolade.
“I am happy to come at this club with a big history and be recognised like this. But at the moment it’s not my worry on whether if I am going to win an individual accolade.
“My focus is on trying to help the club push and win the title. We are so close but we are at a point where we can’t afford to drop points because the competition is tight.
Gaborone United are tied on 57 points with Jwaneng Galaxy but are separated on superior goal difference.
With only nine points left to play, the title race intensifies but the two are set to meet on May 17.
