Nyanga High, Zengeza High 1 defends titles as Old Mutual High Schools Quiz heads to national finals

The 2025 Old Mutual High Schools Provincial Quiz tournaments concluded in thrilling fashion, with defending champions Nyanga High Marist Brothers and Zengeza 1 High retaining their titles, setting the stage for a fiercely contested national finals next month.

Held across the country, the provincial tournaments tested students in four key categories; History of Africa, Geography of Africa, Current Affairs, and Science, Architecture, and Technology of Africa.

Nyanga High secured their fourth consecutive Manicaland title, while Zengeza 1 High maintained their dominance in Harare.

Other provincial winners included St. Mary’s Beitbridge (Matabeleland South), Northlea High (Bulawayo), Fletcher High (Midlands), Wise Owl (Mashonaland East), St. Anthony’s (Masvingo), Sandringham High (Mashonaland West), and Chipindura High (Mashonaland Central).

The national finals, scheduled for July 4, 2025, at Heritage Village in Harare, will see the provincial champions vie for the ultimate title.

Tayson Mudarikiri, CEO of the Book of African Records and organiser of the event, praised the competition’s growing impact.

“This prestigious event not only fosters academic excellence but also equips students to engage with current issues,” he said.

“The increasing participation reflects the immense value it brings to young minds.”

Mudarikiri credited Old Mutual’s sponsorship for the tournament’s expansion, noting the involvement of education officials, including Provincial Education Directors (PEDs) and District School Inspectors (DSIs).

“Old Mutual’s support has been crucial in mobilizing schools and reaching more students nationwide,” he added.
