24 people have been killed while 96 others were injured in road traffic accidents recorded during the Heroes and Defence Forces Holidays.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a total of 196 road traffic accidents were recorded over the long holiday weekend, marking a significant increase from 149 accidents reported during the same period last year.
The rise in accidents has been attributed to reckless driving and negligence by motorists, with the police emphasising the importance of adhering to road rules and regulations to curb the continuous loss of lives through road traffic accidents.
