Chimedza delighted as he finally earns game time

Sport Reporter

Cobert Junior Chimedza has secured a season-long loan move to Portuguese third-tier side AC Marinhense after a frustrating delay in his international clearance stalled his progress at Primeira Liga club Gil Vicente.

The 20-year-old winger, was sidelined at Gil Vicente due to administrative hurdles.

Now, he aims to reignite his career in the Campeonato de Portugal, where he has already made an instant impact.

Chimedza marked his debut for Marinhense with a 1-0 victory over Peniche.

“This move is perfect for me. I need to play consistently to develop,” Chimedza said.

“The team has welcomed me, and I’m fully focused on contributing. Once I prove myself here, I will return stronger to fight for my place at Gil Vicente.”

Chimedza follows the footsteps of the late Freddy Mkwesha, the only other Zimbabwean to feature in the Portuguese league, having played for Sporting Braga in the 1960s.

Despite the setback, Chimedza remains one of Zimbabwe’s most promising exports.

His technical flair and adaptability could soon earn him a return to top-flight football, and possibly a call-up to the Zimbabwean national team, the Warriors.
