Herentals College Harare CBD closed in City Council Blitz

HERENTALS College’s Harare Central Business District premises were Thursday morning closed as the City of Harare intensifies its “Restore Order” initiative in the CBD.

The city fathers have been targeting illegal and non-complaint business operators within the CBD.

Twenty Four Seven gathered that the college, housed along Robert Mugabe, was closed for rental non-payment.

“It’s true the school has been closed. They are not paying rentals yet spending a lot of money in football,” revealed a source.

Herentals Group of Colleges is owned by Innocent Benza, owner and player for Premiership side Herentals College Football Club.

Benza also owns a number of teams in lower leagues while running several schools around the country.

Some students were forced to leave the college along Robert Mugabe Road through the back door.

“My daughter phoned me to say that their lessons have been disrupted by the closure of the building. We are not sure when the building will be reopened,” said one of the parents.

Along the same road, the Edgars shop was also closed.

Several tenants in various buildings have been losing business due to the failure of building owners and managers to comply with the City’s regulations.

The City of Harare is urging building owners to adhere to by-laws that include the payment of rates, the installation of fire extinguishers, and the obtaining of necessary licenses, among other requirements. – Twenty Four Seven/Herald Online
