Drug peddler jailed eight years

A 39-year-old drug peddler, Tyron Siegfried Pigors of Matsheumhlophe in Bulawayo will serve an effective five years behind bars after being convicted by the Bulawayo Regional Court for dealing in crystal methamphetamine.

Pigors, who was arrested on March 6 this year was handed an eight-year term, three years of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour after he was found in possession of 1.2 kilogrammes of crystal meth worth more than US$6 000.

Acting on a tip off, Zimbabwe Republic Police officers pounced on his Matsheumhlophe home, where they recovered crystal methamphetamine satchets concealed in deceptive hiding spots, including a fake dictionary safe box under his bed, a biscuit box, and even a Puma shoe box stashed inside a trunk.

Two digital scales and a kitchen scale were also seized, completing the picture of a dealer feeding the drug menace gripping communities.

Presiding over the matter, Bulawayo Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla ruled that Pigors’ actions posed a serious threat to society and needed a custodial sentence.

Pigors’ conviction marks another victory in the fight against the devastating scourge of drug and substance abuse. – ZBC
