Masvingo Utd keep topflight hopes alive as rivals Hunters slip

‎Masvingo United reclaimed top spot in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League following a narrow 1-0 win over Chivhu Stars on Sunday.

‎Agrippa Murimba converted from the penalty spot in the 70th-minute to help Una Una take their tally 61 points – one ahead of title rivals FC Hunters.

Hunters lost 1-0 to Renco Mine at Maramba to lose the driving seat to Una Una.

‎It will be all to play for next weekend as Hunters host Masvingo at Rudhaka in a top of the table clash.

‎Results elsewhere, ‎Tenax added more fuel to their championship push with a 4-1 thrashing of St Paul’s Musami in Murehwa.

‎‎In an epic encounter at Sakubva, Deportivo La Murambinda secured a 3-2 win over Mutare City Rovers, thanks to Byson Khumalo’s hat-trick.

‎Khumalo opened the scoring in the 29th minute, but Mutare City Rovers restored parity before halftime.

‎Khumalo’s second goal on the stroke of halftime gave La Murambinda the lead, and his hat-trick in the 67th minute seemed to seal the win.

‎However, Tinashe Mangezi pulled one back for Mutare City Rovers in the 79th minute, but La Murambinda held on to collect maximum points.

‎‎La Murambinda’s win takes them to 38 points, leapfrogging Destiny Stars FC, while Mutare City Rovers FC remain on 42 points.
