FC Hunters have claimed the sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League after winning the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League championship with a game to spare.
Hunters beat Tenax 2-1 at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday – making their last match of the game, a visit to Deportivo La Murambinda a dead rubber.
The Marondera-based side are set to get their trophy courtesy of the sponsors Pacific Cigarettes through their brand Pacific Storm in their last encounter of the season.
Hunters’ dream of top-flight football came to reality after one their closest contenders Masvingo United were held to a goalless draw Manica Diamonds U19 at Mucheke, also on Sunday.
The result at Mucheke meant Hunters go into the last day of the season with an unassailable lead.
The win over Tenax – who were also in the title race too their points tally to 66, meaning that going into the last day of the season next week, neither Masvingo United (62) points and Tenax (61) will eclipse them.
