Opposition politician Job Sikhala on Monday appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate court formally charged for illegal possession of explosives.
Sikhala, 53, who is the leader of the National Democratic Working Group appeared in court together with his co-accused Alexander Thema, aged 78.
The duo has been further remanded in custody to November 13.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Gauteng Division’s regional spokesperson in Pretoria Limuka Mahanjana said Sikhala and Thema had been remanded for formal bail application.
“A Zimbabwean politician, Job Sikhala ( 53) and his uncle Alexander Ferrowst Thema (78) appeared briefly at the Pretoria Magistrates Court. They are facing charges of possession of explosives,” she said.
“It is alleged that on 06 November 2025 the two accused were stopped by police while driving along Kgosi Mampuru Street. When the police searched for the car, they found 26 units of blasting cartridges and 15 units of connector cap fusers.
“In court the matter was postponed to 13 November 2025 for a formal bail application . The two are remanded in custody”.
Sikhala and Thema were arrested early on Friday morning while travelling in a Ford Fiesta along the N14 highway towards Johannesburg, after Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.
