Referee Brighton Chimene has been selected by CAF to officiate at the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking the first time a Zimbabwean will take charge at the tournament.
The prestigious appointment, announced ahead of the August 2-30 tournament in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, cements Chimene’s place in history.
He becomes Zimbabwe’s pioneer at CHAN and the first local referee to grace a major continental stage since Kenny Marange at AFCON 2008.
The milestone is a triumph for Zimbabwean officiating, spotlighting the nation’s rising standards on the African football scene.
