The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has cracked down on a brazen smuggling ring at Forbes Border Post, arresting a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) officer and four clearing agents for fraud and customs violations.
The suspects—Zimra official Collins Chakamavinga and clearing agents Michael Makonye, Batsirai Mangoma, Zondai Bechayi, and Steven Masaraure—allegedly conspired to falsify customs declarations and sneak contraband into Zimbabwe.
The agents represent Withyou Customs Clearing (Pvt) Ltd and Tayema Investments (Pvt) Ltd.
Authorities intercepted two Mozambican-registered trucks falsely declared as carrying agricultural equipment.
Shockingly, despite being flagged for re-inspection, one truck was mysteriously cleared again—a move now under scrutiny.
ZACC investigators revealed that Chakamavinga and colleague Hillary Chiwamba greenlit the trucks without proper checks, enabling the smuggling operation. The exact financial damage remains under assessment.
The accused are set to face justice on Wednesday at the Mutare Magistrates Court as the probe deepens.
