National Sports Stadium not yet ready

Sports Reporter

Zimbabwe will face Rwanda in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier on September 9, but not on home soil.

Instead, the match will be played at Orlando Stadium in South Africa, despite ongoing renovations at National Sports Stadium.

Currently rooted at the bottom of Group C with just four points from six games, Zimbabwe’s hopes hang by a thread.

Meanwhile, South Africa leads the group with 13 points, while Rwanda and Benin are locked in a tight race for second, both on eight points. Nigeria trail with seven, and Lesotho sit just behind with six.

The continuous unavailability of the National Sports Stadium marks a grim picture on the pace of renovations taking place.
