Kelvin Kaindu notched his first victory as Dynamos coach, but it was goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni who emerged the hero, delivering yet another penalty masterclass to sink Yadah in a tense Chibuku Super Cup clash.
After a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate in regulation time at Ngoni Stadium, the match hinged on spot-kicks, a stage tailor-made for Makoni.
The substitute keeper, introduced in the 86th minute, immediately made his presence felt, denying Takunda Varretta with a sharp save before watching Vincent Sango sky his effort, sealing a dramatic 4-3 shootout win for Dynamos.
Makoni, no stranger to penalty heroics, once again proved the difference as Kaindu’s men booked their place in the next round, with their new boss breathing a sigh of relief.
