Police in Harare are investigating the death of an five months old infant during a Zimbabwe Football Association referees’ training seminar.
In a statement, Zifa said the infant’s mother was one of the female participants and had brought her two children to the seminar when tragedy struck.
The country’s football mother body did not disclose the circumstances leading to the death.
The referee is part of the 30 members, who are attending an elite FIFA MA Referees course in Harare.
According to the statement, the infant child suffered a sudden and unexpected medical incident.
“Despite immediate efforts to render assistance, the child sadly passed away,” said ZIFA.
“ZIFA are handling the case in accordance with the law.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association regrets to inform the football family and the nation of a tragic incident.”
“As an Association, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and respectfully ask that their privacy be observed,” added ZIFA.
